The Saga of captain Smith
When the Titanic's captain Edward John Smith or "EJ" went to bed shortly after 11pm on the night of April 14,1912 he had no way of knowing his life was about to end-
He steamed blindly into the night knowing full well of ice ahead. This was not wrecklessness in a scense- this was actually a common practice in those days- however he had no fewer then 6 ice warnings he knew about at at least 5 others he didn't know about- This created a faulse sense of sacurity- Already he had adjusted course some 8 miles south of the normal shipping lanes to avoid ice but ended up with a problem by not knowing that the ice was further south then usual.
Capt E.J. Smith- Titanic-1850 to 1912
His history isn't flawless by any means- Far from it- He was wreckless- Here i some of his antics as Captain
1889- RMS Republic run aground off New York under his command
1890- Grounded another unknown ship under his command of Rio De Janeiro
1899- Germanic Capsized due to ice while tied up in NY harbor
1904- Under command of Majestic when it caught fire
1906- under command of Baltic when it caught fire
1909- Grounded Adriatic off New York while under his command
1911- Titanic's Sister Ship- Olympic- collided with a naval cruiser- HMS Hawke while under his command.
1912- Titanic Strikes iceberg and sinks- taking his life- he was in command
He was the commadore of the White Star Line- He was due to retire when he returned Titanic to port.
So now here he was on april 14,1912 and his ship was sinking- He could do nothing right that night- He even forgot what ship he was on when he lowered one boat to A deck- A deck had an included prominade deck. This feture was distict to Titanic as the Olympic didn't have it- He seemed to had avoided everyone that night.
No one truly knows what happened to him- Rumors put him on the bridge, on the roof of the officers quarters, swimming with a baby in his arms, and even trying to get on an overturned collapable B- Whatever happened he failed to survive.
Titanic herself in all her beauty.
